The objectives mentioned below are based on the 1995-2001 Institutional Development Plan, and its continuation in the 2002-2010 and 2030 Institutional Development Plan, of the University of Guadalajara, which are aimed at "Ensuring that the education system has a sufficient number of high-level professors and researchers to carry out the academic tasks and the transformations required by the expansion of services and the rapid process of advancement in scientific knowledge and technological development "
a) The training of specialists in scientific-technical research, for the generation of new knowledge about the city and the territory, within the framework of the search and generation of instruments to achieve sustainable development.
b) The training of specialists who can generate methods and intervention strategies with a new conception of urban planning and design and land use planning.
c) Formation of a scientific and academic body, with social sense and conscience, that promotes new teaching and research options with total quality levels.
d) Encourage the transfer of knowledge to the development and practice of social projects.
e) Strengthen links between institutions and people, in order to increase mutual and own capacities in the areas of the program.
f) Co-participate in scientific-academic development projects that exchange experiences with other specialists and enter the new dynamics of globalization.
g) Equally distribute the benefits of the program, increasing its social and productive viability.
h) Influence the connection with networks of local, national and international groups and institutions dedicated to the study of similar problems.
i) Promote interdisciplinarity and transdisciplinarity in scientific and teaching work.
j) Promote the updating of knowledge in the areas of the program, thus promoting participation in the construction of new development paradigms.
