Holds a Bachelor´s degree in Sociology from the University of Guadalajara, and a Master´s and PH.D in sociology from The New School for Social Research in New York.
Hes was a fellow of the Special Program for Urban and Regional Studies (SPURS) in the Department of Urban Studies a nd Planning at the Massachusetts Institute of Tecnology (MIT) during the 2002-2003 academic year.
Research interests include: contemporary political and social thepory, the Mexican and Jalisco political systems, and thougt os Max Weber. He is the author of various articles and essays published in academic journails and specialized newspapers.
He served as coodinator of the encyclopedia "jalisco in the Contemporary World", and of the book "For a Meaningful Democracy". He also participated in the academic coordination of the study "Jalisco a Futuro: Building the Future 1999-2025".
He has held key academic-administrative positions, including:
Directoor of Center for Strategic Studies for Development (1999-2001)
General Academic Coordinator of the University of Guadalajara.
Rector of the University Center for Social Sciences and Humanities (CUCSH)
Member of national Systems of Researchers (SNI), Level II.
Currently, he servers as Executive Vice-Rector of the University of Guadalajara and is a weekly columnist for newspapel Milenio Jalisco.
